Turning fifteen is always an exciting moment for any person or organisation. It is a sort of crossroads where one would have had gained experience, but still have bold experimental youthful energy to take brave new steps. Commissioned by the OBOG Wind Symphony, Fifteen! is a fanfare that celebrates that energy, using a motif of a perfect 5th interval to represent the numbers 1 and 5. This motif can be heard in the syncopated statements throughout the fanfare as well as the expansive lyrical theme in the middle and end of the work.
